McKesson Canada partners with #movethedial to Launch New Scholarship for Women in STEM - Press Release - McKesson Canada Extranet
Program aims to increase the participation and leadership of women in tech
TORONTO—September 18, 2019—McKesson Canada and #movethedial today announced the establishment of a new scholarship for women in STEM to support the work and achievements of Canadian women in their chosen STEM fields.
The new program, funded by McKesson Canada, will offer four scholarships of $5,000 (CAD) and tickets to the #movethedial Global Summit, brought to you by TD, to women who are pursuing university studies in STEM fields.
“We’re thrilled to support this important scholarship, and to build on our ongoing commitment to develop strong women leaders at McKesson Canada and across the country,” said Paula Keays, President of McKesson Canada. “Gender diverse companies outperform their peers by close to 15%. Investing in building a pipeline of ready-now talent is both the smart and the right thing to do. I’m pleased to be playing a small part in helping young women in STEM achieve their goals and drive better business results in Canada.”
Inaugural scholarship winners will be announced at the 2019 #movethedial Global Summit on November 14 in Toronto.
"It's no surprise to anyone that women are underrepresented when it comes to STEM,” said Jodi Kovitz, CEO of #movethedial. “In fact, Canadian women make up just over 30% of STEM bachelor degree recipients. To play a part in closing the gender gap, we're very excited to launch this scholarship to support and engage young women who are entering the sector."
The selection committee to choose the four winners of the scholarship will include members of McKesson and #movethedial.
Applicants will enter key information on the online sign-up portal, including a 400-word essay outlining their efforts to improve diversity in technology and how the scholarship will help them achieve their goals. Applicants must: be enrolled in a STEM field of study (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) at an accredited Canadian university or college; be a resident of Canada identifying as a woman; be in good academic standing; be able to attend the #movethedial Global Summit in November of the scholarship-application year; and, willing, to have their name and image to be used wherever the scholarship program is mentioned.
The scholarship is being administered by The Walrus Lab, the client services division of The Walrus.
